MISSION STATEMENT

The Lanett Police Department Detective Division is responsible for the investigation of crime and the presentation of cases to the District Attorney's Office for prosecution.

The Detective Division is committed to timely and responsive follow up investigations of reported crime, as well as proactive enforcement of narcotic offenses. In conjunction with the Community Oriented Policing philosophy, the Detective Division strives to solve crime and to increase public awareness and educate the citizens of the community on how to better protect themselves from being victimized by crime.

Our division is currently comprised of a supervising Lieutenant and two subordinate detectives.

Some of the crimes investigated by our division are listed below:

  • Crimes against Persons
  • Juvenile and Sex Crimes
  • Economic Crimes
  • Property Crimes

Crimes Against person

The Detective Division investigates crimes such as robbery, assault, missing adults, and domestic violence matters. We also provide presentations to schools, service clubs, and businesses on how to better protect themselves from being a crime victim.

Junevile and Sex Crimes

The Detective Division investigates juvenile matters and sex-related crimes. We conduct follow-up investigations on runaway juveniles, child abuse, child neglect, and sexual assault cases. When juveniles are arrested for criminal charges, we prepare their cases for prosecution in the juvenile court system.

Economic Crimes

The Detective Division investigates crimes involving financial transactions. These crimes include forgery, fraud, identity theft, and the embezzlement of property. A majority of these cases require extensive follow-up investigation and a good working relationship with local banks and other financial institutions.

Property Crimes

The Detective Division investigates matters involving the theft of property. These cases include burglary (auto, residential, and commercial), grand theft, and petty theft. When fingerprints are located at the scene of a property crime, our detectives closely scrutinize them and work closely with local crime labs to try to identify the suspects by the fingerprints they left at the crime scene. This detective also reviews pawn slips in an attempt to identify property that has been stolen and later pawned by the perpetrators.
