"COP For A Week Program"

Dear: Cadet Participants,
   The 2009 Lanett Police & Recreation Youth Police Academy is a one-week program that will be held at the L.B. Sykes Jr. High and Community Center located on Cherry Dr. Lanett, AL. The program is designed to help young people explore career and leadership opportunities, life skills and character education. Participants will experience strict discipline, drills, ceremonies and physical activities. There will be field trips to the Chambers County Jail, Juvenile Court, and the Lee County Juvenile Detention Center. Participants will be taught firearm safety, drug awareness, and how to deal with issues that they may encounter as a growing youth. Participants will receive hands on experience in administering first aid, processing crime scenes, experiencing mock domestic disputes, how to avoid strangers, person(s) under the influence of alcohol, drugs and much more. After the completion of the academy there will be a graduation ceremony where participants will receive awards and certificates, and a cook-out inviting the immediate family. Non participant family members will have to purchase a meal ticket at 5 dollars per person. Each participant must arrive on time every day wearing a red shirt, khaki pants or shorts, and tennis shoes. The Youth Academy will have red academy shirts available for purchase at $13.00.
